Alberto Mantovani was born in 1948 in Milan, where he graduated in Medicine in 1973. After the specialization in oncology he trained and worked in London at the Chester Beatty Research Institute, and in the United States at the National Institutes of Health.
He is Professor of General Pathology, Faculty of Medicine at the University of Milan.
After being Head of the Department of Immunology and Cell Biology Institute of Pharmacological Research Mario Negri in Milan (1996-2005), since September 2005 he is Scientific Director at Istituto Clinico Humanitas and President of Fondazione Humanitas per la Ricerca.
For his contributions to the field of immunology he has received several national and international awards. Bibliometric analysis suggests that this is one of the most productive and cited researchers in international scientific literature.
